When we visit a city it is not only interesting to learn about new places, visit museums and monuments and discover curiosities, but also... to eat!
Cooking is a great way to discover a city in depth, to get to know new flavours and distant traditions.
A trip to Brighton? Nothing better than planning authentic stops to discover typical dishes. So let's see together: 10 things to eat in Brighton and where.
1 - English Breakfast
Photo by J o. Wherever you go in England, with due variations, the English breakfast is a must-try.
It is the stapleof the British day, it is very different from the Italian breakfast and perhaps that is why it is so interesting to discover.
First of all, it is a savoury breakfast, consisting of hearty, hearty dishes: eggs are a must, sausages, crispy bacon, beans cooked in tomato sauce, mushrooms, all accompanied by buttered bread, a bowl of pudding and a steaming cup of coffee or tea.
Given our eating habits, you'll probably stay full until the evening with an original English Breakfast!

2 - Fish&Chips
One of England'siconic dishes, it's impossible to leave without trying at least one.
Incidentally, this is a seaside town, where this fried fish and chips dish becomes even more important, it is always fresh and tasty, which is why it is particularly popular.
It is a single dish served with a generous portion of cod or other fish with a thick, crispy breading, fried and served with a side of chips and tasty sauces, including garlic. It can be ordered in almost any restaurant, but can also be sold, particularly on the pier, as street food. A must try!

3 - Sunday Roast
This is thetypical Sunday roast, offered in many restaurants as a Sunday lunch menu.
It is a single dish whose main ingredient is a roast of various types (pork or beef), which has undergone a long, slow cooking process usually marinated with numerous spices and sauces, served with the tasty cooking liquid and a range of side vegetables that may vary, but potatoes are always well represented.
It is also sometimes served with a bowl of pudding, a dish that goes well with many others. If you want bread, specify it: for us it is a given, abroad it is not!
Recommended at: lunch
Average cost: £12.00-14.00 (€15.00-€16.00)
Main ingredients: meat, vegetables
4 - Burger
Known the world over as the typical fast food dish, these burgers are served with succulent meats from British pastures, topped with tasty sauces, fries and more.

True, this is a typical American dessert, but in England it has caught on widely and in Brighton, in particular, there is a very famous bakery, even starring in a TV show, Catwalk Cakes.
Here you can find cupcakes of all kinds and fillings, to be eaten first with the eyes and then eaten to your heart's content!
They are sweets made with a sweet dough and then decorated with coloured or multi-flavoured icing: chocolate, vanilla, coconut, strawberry, any flavour your imagination can suggest.

You can't miss the appointment of the five o'clock tea, an authentic ritual for British citizens.
The real tea is drunk without sugar, often accompanied by a drop of milk, and tradition dictates that, while sipping the drink, one enjoys the famous scones, typical sweet rolls, small but very leavened, which are cut in two and filled with butter and jam.
Butter is very popular and can be found practically everywhere.

This is a great typical savoury dish, not very well known but worth trying.

8 - Eggs Benedict
Considered a separate meal or even a complement to the English Breakfast, these eggs are the most celebrated dish of British chefs, even Gordon Ramsay has included them as a test on the Masterchef programme.
It's a really interestingcompound dish: scones cut in half, two poached eggs, slices of crispy bacon and, on top of this tower of ingredients, a drizzle of so-called hollandaise sauce, a kind of mayonnaise with butter added.
A dish to be eaten with caution, given its high fat content, but very tasty and nutritious. Rumour has it that the best eggs Benedict in Brighton are at Bill's.

9 - Chicken Tikka Masala
Photo by Sriyarao22. Originally, this originated as an Indian dish.
Yet it has now become so much a part of the country's gastronomic tradition that it is considered an English dish.
This dish has become, after several reinterpretations, a kind of chicken stew, cooked with masala sauce, made of cream, curry and tomato, which gives the dish a very distinctive orange colour.
The dish is usually served with naan bread and rice.
Recommended: lunch, dinner
Average cost: £10.00 (€12.00)
Main ingredients: chicken, cream, curry, tomato, spices
10 - Fudge
This is atypical fudge, so sweet that it is strongly discouraged for non-gourmands.
It is sold on street corners in small squares, so it can also be eaten as a snack or street food.
In Brighton you are more likely to find it along the quayside, in small sweet stalls.
It is made from milk, sugar, caramel, cream and butter: a mixture that gives it great softness and the ability to melt on contact with the palate. But it can also be found in other variations, such as chocolate.
